I'm working on putting together an all female rock compilation, with the theme obviously being female fronted rock bands. It will be the first in a series that I'm working on simply titled "Digital Meltd0wn Presents:"; not very exciting, I know, but the music, liner notes, and album art will make up for it. Some of the artists/bands I am considering featuring are:
Babes In Toyland, The Runaways, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey, Jack Off Jill,The Donnas, Veruca Salt, Daisy Chainsaw, Queen Adreena, Kittie, Betty X, The Avengers, Horrorpops, Lydia Lunch, Bitch Alert, Velcra, Roxy Saint, The Gits, Sahara Hotnights, Sexpod, Fluffy, The Soviettes, My Ruin, Bikini Kill, 7 Year Bitch, The Distillers, L7, The Kills, Devotchkas, Bif Naked, Rasputina, Penetration, The Slits, Pain Teens, Lunachicks
Now I could use your help. I know you wonderful people are aware of some hard rocking chicks that aren't on this list, so please let me know of any artists, bands, or particular songs, that you think should be included on this list by leaving a comment.
I'm also trying to think of a good name for the compilation, so if you have any ideas please comment.
Welcome
W
elcome to the Digital Meltd0wn Music Blog. The aim of this blog is to introduce the readers to music that is out of print, commercially unavailable, released under a creative commons license, or with approval by the featured artist. The majority of the music posted here would be considered underground. Don't let that fool you into thinking that the music featured here might be any less enjoyable than that of the mainstream artists you hear on the radio, as this couldn't be further from the truth.
Please keep in mind that the majority of the artists that appear on this blog, along with their respective record labels, are not wealthy and need your support. If you enjoy the material that you find here, please support the artists/labels by purchasing their material afterwards. If you are an artist/label that would prefer to have your material removed from this blog, simply leave me a comment, and I would be more than happy to promptly remove the offending post.
In addition to running this blog, I also work on a few other projects during my spare time. You can find links to those, as well as a few other important links associated with Digital Meltd0wn in the menu bar above.

If you haven't heard any of these reply and I can upload a couple of tracks by each.
And title suggestion:
"The Girls are Alright"
Call it 'I've got no cock but I still like to rock'
bob: Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't heard of any of those bands :( If you could upload a couple of tracks by each, that would be fantastic.
Anonymous: "I've Got No Cock But I Still Like To Rock" heh I thought of something similar. I was thinking of titling it simply "Rock out with your..."
Thank you both for the suggestions, and please keep them coming.

SLEATER-KINNEY! Of course you know them. If you don't, go hear some tunes. I love "Ironclad" and "Youth Decay" from All Hands in the Bad One album and any song from "The Woods", their last and wonderful record.
And what about girl bands from SouthAmerica? Mercenárias or Rita Lee, from Brazil, or Aterciopelados from Colombia. Contact me if you need any help.
Birtha, Girlschool, X-ray Spex, the Raincoats, the Au Pairs, Blondie, Patti Smith, Kleenex/Liliput, the Put-a-Pons, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Grimble Grumble, the Barbie Army, Antietam, Heavenly, Tsunami, and Scrawl. To name a few.
Don't forget Bush Tetras! So many do...
Nina Hagen, Lene Lovich, Xmal Deutchland...
The Breeders, Magic Dirt, Drain S.T.H., Garbage, Hole, The Sugar Cubes and definitely some early Patti Smith.

The Friggs - Bad word for a good thing
Here are some suggestions, if there are any unknown to you let me know & I upload some songs:
Bratmobile, Holly Golightly, Red Aunts, Shonen Knife, The Muffs, The Go-Go's, Malaria, Talulah Gosh, April March (espec. early rockin' stuff), The Slits, Gore Gore Girls.

and, of course The Shaggs!
just forgot about Elastica
The United States of America
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Jwi78dYK2o
Lovedoll Superstars
Tribe 8
Thanks once again for all the suggestions. Perhaps I should have mentioned this earlier, but I'm not going to put anything too poppy on the compilation. It's going to be a hard rock, high energy compilation.
It's going to take me a little while to sort through all these, but please keep them coming.
no one seems to have mentioned the GTOs. Okay only one album, but well worth considering. Roy
Pulsallama
(http://missingtoof.com/v2/2007/08/21/new-wave-tuesday-pulsallama/)
Malaria! (great grat band indeed) (http://bienvenidosatotalclub.blogspot.com/2007/12/malaria-compiled-1981-1984.html)
The Mo-dettes (I reccomend to include "White Mouse Disco" - http://rideyourpony-twighlightzone.blogspot.com/2006/07/ramona-jane-kate-june-mo-dettes-are.html)
The Dt's (well, only the singer is a female, but she kicks asses and it's a really hard-rocking band from the mighty Estrus label. Check them out on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/thedts)
The same goes for the iper-trashy rawkness of Texas Terri Bomb (http://www.myspace.com/texasterri)
Other recommendations:
7 Year Bitch (http://www.myspace.com/sevenyearbitch)
Team Dresch (http://www.myspace.com/teamdresch)
Babes in Toyland (you can DL House and Arriba singles from here: http://fuelfriends.blogspot.com/2006/08/sub-pop-singles-club-retrospective.html; but I think finding whole LPs on some mp3 blog isn't that difficult either)
The mighty new-wavers Prag VEC (http://anniesanimal.blogspot.com/2007/01/prag-vec.html)
I think the guitar-heroin(e)-noise-addicted Marnie Stern is well worth a listening (and an inclusion in the comp you're preparing) too: http://heavyvibes.blogspot.com/2007/06/marnie-stern-in-advance-of-broken-arm.html
There are lots of other female rockers worth mentioning, but I'm busting my balls writing :)
Cheers from Italy,
Giafranco
Die Cheerleader
Th' Faith Healers
ZuZu's Petals
How about Pussy Galore or the Pleasure Seekers?
CSS, Metric, 1-800-zombie, Punk Bunny, Cibo Matto, Glass Candy. Don't have any tracks to download for you though, CSS opened up for Ladytron here in the states last year, and I believe Glass Candy is from Seattle. 1-800-Zombie is from Texas, real funky stuff, and Punk Bunny is more of a sexually orientated band. Metric is from Canada, they have alot in common with Miss Kitten, another potentially good chick band(I think there's one guy in their band).
If you get a chance, check out a website known as Pure Volume. It's a listing of all sorts of local bands in varying areas of America. There's two listings on the site, for listeners and musicians. Most bands have their own material, also available for download, on their profiles while a few don't. It might help.
From Japan:
-Thug Murder
-Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re
:)
zero ii -- two more --
The Trashwomen
Famous Monsters

George
I always wonder why nobody ever mentions Sugarsmack (Hope Nicholls fronting one of the most exciting bands ever!)
CHICKS ON SPEED
LESBIANS ON ECSTASY

If rockin' is what you want, definitely check out some Girlschool. One of the most rockin'est and underrated bands of either gender.
How about some Lita Ford or Wendy O. Williams?!
gerry
Most definitely the A-Lines.
