UPDATE: This post was re-uploaded 11/20/2013.
Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho was a film that was well ahead of it's time. Although it may be tame in comparison to modern horror films, the score by Bernard Herrmann is anything but so. It is inarguably one of most powerful scores in cinematic history. Herrmann masterfully captures the frenzied state of a psychopath commiting violent acts of murder. Both "The Bathroom" and "The Murder" are perfect examples of this, in which a "stabbing" technique with the violin is used in order to create a high-pitched shriek, which casts the listener into a frantic state of mind. Utilizing both violins and cellos to perfection, Herrmann slowly constructs an atmosphere of almost unbearable dread with ominous overtones during the buildup to such moments.
There have been several versions of this score released over the years. In 1975 Herrmann conducted the National Philharmonic Orchestra in a recreation of the score in it's entirety. However, this release would mark the first time that the music was made available from the actual soundtrack of the film. A transfer from the original master tapes, which were recorded on high quality analog equipment, was finally made available to the public after 36 long years of waiting.

Excellent! Thank you! A perfect film score.
Thanks. This is definitely one of the best.
This was not transferred from "original master tapes"....this release is well-known to be a bootleg issue which was created from the isolated analog music track from the old laserdisc release. There has never been an official studio release of these recordings....but at least these ARE the original recordings as heard in the movie.
Anonymous: Do you care to post a source for the information you provided. My sources say otherwise, but I'm always open to new information. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Take care.
Yep this is from the Lasersdisc release I compared this to the Laserdisc and they are identical except the laserdisc has better quality than this cd. It was released by Sound Stage records which is pretty much an unheard of company. I guess they didn't care that much about making the cd sound as good as the laserdisc. This cd is also listed on the soundtrackcollector page for Psycho as a bootleg. It's the one labeled as Sound Stage SCD 585 in the list. It's hilarious, only in a slightly tragic way...

Hi, Thanks for sharing this soundtrack score of Psycho.
But I have one question?
Is the sound of this download file normal?
I have downloaded it from the Mega link and I found the sound very bad, terrible! The sound it’s full of crap, clicks, distortion to the left then to the right and more clicks!! It sounds like a striped or dirty or broken CD!
So I want to know if it’s normal or not.
This is the famous bootleg CD, an isolated LaserDisc score or what is it?
Thanks you for answering me!
to Cobretti,
If you read the above comments, you will get a better idea of what is going on.
When Zer0ii originally posted this he said something about it being from 'original master tapes'.
But then anonymous wrote "This was not transferred from "original master tapes"....this release is well-known to be a bootleg issue which was created from the isolated analog music track from the old laserdisc release. I believe the above to be true, that this has never been officially released & that this bootleg was just ripped from an old laser disc. That I would guess explains the quality. You can try using some filtering program to fix the quality, you can let me know & I can see what I can do, or you can just have it as is.
